Door handles can also punch holes in walls. If the door still hits the wall, the same damage can happen again.

Cracks need a cause check

Do not patch over moisture damage

Fix the leak or damp source first. Wait until the wall is dry before patching the surface.

Water can harm more than the wall finish. Wider damage may need a builder or another qualified person.

Plasterboard can do more than give a wall a smooth face.

Older wall materials need care

Not every old wall or ceiling surface is normal plasterboard.

Send clear photos if the material looks unusual. Tell us if the home has an old textured wall or ceiling finish.
